Copper Penny
She was the model at a local winter group shoot. In these types of events, a small group of photographers pays a flat fee for the afternoon, and each takes turns shooting for about 3-5mins. The studio owner typically sets up the lighting and changes it a few times. Outfits also change. In this event, we could also buy 1:1 shooting time after the group session ended. I’d never met Penny, and as I arrived the session was already underway, so I didn’t have a chance to say hello.
When it was my first turn, I introduced myself and thanked her for being there. Then I described what I had in mind and said, “I’m going to move around a lot, and I’ll ask for changes when I want them. I know you know what you’re doing, so I will let you do it.” This helped to both build a quick connection and to let her know what to expect. As we started shooting, I gave her guidance as we worked. I kept up the pace, and she kept up the energy.The studio owner was shooting video of us working together. The group portion went well, and I came back for 1:1 later.
The Takeaway: Penny has playful energy. You can see her bring presence into the work early on in the shoot in frame 16.
She always had something new to show me. Penny engaged the camera well, and in frame120 her eyes lock right into the viewfinder.
We shot some nice art nudes, and I love number 440 in particular because of the way that the lighting really pops the ink on her forward arm and presents the features of her hand.

At one point she said she felt like dancing, and you can see that she is really having fun in frame 283.
